Phone Plans With International Calling: What US Carriers Include

US phone plans with international calling come in two kinds. Some build it in: Google Fi Unlimited Premium includes free calls from the US to 50+ destinations, and Mint Mobile includes Mexico, Canada and the UK. The big carriers mostly sell it as an add-on, from $3 a month on US Mobile to $10 to $15 a month on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Cricket. Calls to Mexico and Canada are included on most plans, and if you only call abroad now and then, keeping your cheapest plan and paying per call often costs less than any of these.

This guide covers calling from the US to other countries. Using your phone while you travel is a separate product (roaming passes), and it is not covered here.

The short version: who includes what

Prices are as of October 2026 unless marked, taken from each carrier's own page. Plans change often, so check before you switch.

CarrierIncluded in the planWhat it costs to add more countries
AT&TUnlimited calls to Mexico and Canada on most plansAT&T International Calling, $15/mo per line: unlimited to 85+ countries, discounted to 140+ more
VerizonDepends on the planGlobal Choice, $10/mo per line: up to 300 minutes to one of 140 countries, plus unlimited Mexico and Canada
T-MobileMexico and Canada on most plansStateside International Talk, $15/mo: unlimited to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+ (as of September 2026)
Google FiCanada and Mexico on Unlimited Standard; 50+ destinations on Unlimited PremiumPremium is $65/mo for one line, $15 more than Standard
CricketMexico and Canada on Supreme, Smart and Select UnlimitedCountry add-ons from $10/mo, with set minutes to one country
US MobileInternational Calling on Unlimited Premium, Unlimited Flex, annual Unlimited Starter and By-the-gig$3/mo on monthly Unlimited Starter and Light
Mint MobileCalls to Mexico, Canada and the UKWallet credit at per-minute rates for other countries

Two things stand out. Mexico and Canada are included on most plans, so if those are the only countries you call, check your plan before you pay for anything. And the big-carrier add-ons cost $10 to $15 a month, which is $120 to $180 a year.

Postpaid carriers: AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile

AT&T

AT&T International Calling is $15 a month per line and gives unlimited calls from the US to 85+ countries, including China, Germany and India, with discounted rates to 140+ more. It needs a domestic postpaid plan with unlimited talk. AT&T says most of its plans already include unlimited calls to Mexico and Canada. Calls to countries outside the add-on are billed at pay-per-use rates. Our AT&T international calling guide has the per-minute prices.

Verizon

Verizon names three international calling plans: Global Choice, Global Calling and Global Calling Plus. The one we could confirm a price for on Verizon's consumer pages is Global Choice: $10 a month per line, you pick one country from a list of 140, and you get up to 300 minutes a month to it. It also includes unlimited calls to Mexico and Canada. To add it, text the country's name to 4004 (for example "Argentina") or add it in My Verizon. Global Calling and Global Calling Plus are added by texting "Global" or "Plus" to 4004.

Without a plan, Verizon's pay-per-minute rates start at $0.49 a minute, and Verizon notes that domestic airtime may also apply. Verizon also says some destinations need extra permission, and that your account must be active for 34 days and in good standing to get it. More, including the other two plans, in our Verizon international calling guide.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile's add-on for calls from the US is Stateside International Talk at $15 a month, with unlimited calls to landlines in 70+ countries and to mobiles in 30+ countries (as of September 2026). Note the gap: mobiles are covered in far fewer countries than landlines, so check which kind of number you call. T-Mobile says most of its plans include calls to Mexico and Canada. Without the add-on, it charges pay-per-use rates by country. Our T-Mobile international calling guide has the per-country picture.

Prepaid and smaller carriers

Several prepaid brands build international calling into the plan rather than selling it as an extra.

Google Fi

Google Fi's plan page splits international calling by plan, as of October 2026:

Fi planPrice for one lineCalls from the US to other countries
Unlimited Premium$65/moFree to 50+ destinations
Unlimited Standard$50/moFree to Canada and Mexico
Unlimited Essentials$35/moPer-minute rates

Prices are before taxes and government fees. So Premium's free calls cost you $15 a month over Standard, or $30 over Essentials, if you would not otherwise want Premium's extras (such as more data and international data). Calls to destinations outside the free list are charged per minute.

Cricket Wireless

Cricket automatically enrolls Supreme, Smart and Select Unlimited customers in calling and texting from the US to Mexico and Canada, as of October 2026. For other countries, it sells country add-ons starting at $10 a month, each with a set number of minutes to landlines and mobiles in one country. More than 200 countries and territories are available. Calls to Canada's northern territories are not included.

US Mobile

US Mobile includes its International Calling feature on Unlimited Premium, Unlimited Flex, the annual Unlimited Starter plan and By-the-gig. On monthly Unlimited Starter and on Light plans, it costs $3 a month (or $36 a year on annual Light), as of October 2026. Coverage reaches 200+ countries depending on the plan, and US Mobile publishes minute limits by country, so check the country you call before you count on it.

Mint Mobile

Mint includes calls from the US to Mexico, Canada and the UK on its plans. For the rest of the world, you load credit into your Mint wallet and pay Mint's per-minute rate for each country. Rates and steps are in our Mint Mobile international calls guide.

Is an add-on worth it? The break-even math

A monthly add-on is a bet that you will call enough to beat paying per call. To find the break-even point, divide the add-on price by the per-minute rate you would otherwise pay.

For the per-minute side, here are BoraPhone's mobile rates at the time of writing (October 2026), with the monthly minutes at which an add-on starts to save money, assuming the add-on covers that country:

Country you callPer-minute rate (mobile)Minutes a month before a $15 add-on winsSame for a $10 add-on
Mexico$0.11about 136about 91
United Kingdom$0.07about 214about 143
Germany$0.10150100
India$0.11about 136about 91
Philippines$0.65about 23about 15

Landline rates are lower still: $0.04 a minute to Mexico and UK landlines, for example. The full list is on the rates page.

A worked example: you call your mother's mobile in India for 20 minutes every Sunday, about 87 minutes a month. Paying per minute at $0.11, that is just under $10 a month. AT&T's $15 add-on would cost more, unless you also call other countries it covers. Double the calls and the add-on wins.

What the table tells you:

  • Under about two hours a month to the UK, Germany or India, paying per call is usually cheaper than a $15 add-on.
  • For the Philippines and other expensive routes, an add-on wins quickly, if it covers the country you call. A carrier plan, an app call or a calling card is the better deal for regular calls there.
  • For Mexico, check your plan first. You may already have unlimited calls included and pay nothing.

Which plan fits how you call?

How you callBest fit
One country, weekly, for an hour or moreAn add-on or plan that includes that country (Verizon Global Choice, the AT&T or T-Mobile add-on, a Cricket country add-on)
Only Mexico or CanadaKeep your current plan, after checking it includes them
The UK, oftenMint Mobile includes it; otherwise compare an add-on against per-call pricing
Many countries, regularlyAT&T International Calling, T-Mobile Stateside International Talk or Google Fi Unlimited Premium, after checking the country lists
A few calls a yearYour cheapest plan plus a pay-per-minute calling service
Landlines abroad (banks, hotels, family homes)Check whether the add-on covers landlines and mobiles in that country; per-minute landline rates are often the lowest

For the last two rows, there is no need to upgrade. BoraPhone, for example, calls landlines and mobiles in 180+ countries from a web browser on your phone or laptop, with no app or SIM, on pay-as-you-go credit from $5 with no subscription. The rate shows before every call, billing is per minute (rounded up to the next minute), calls to the US and Canada start from $0.04 a minute, and your first call is free. You can compare countries on the international calling rate index.

Frequently asked questions

Does Verizon offer international calling plans?

Yes. Verizon's Global Choice costs $10 a month per line for up to 300 minutes to one country you choose, plus unlimited calls to Mexico and Canada, as of October 2026. It also offers Global Calling and Global Calling Plus. Without a plan, pay-per-minute rates start at $0.49 a minute.

Which network is best for international calls?

There is no single winner, because each carrier covers a different list of countries. Mint is strong for the UK, Google Fi Unlimited Premium for many countries in one plan, and the AT&T and T-Mobile add-ons for heavy callers. Check that the country you call, and whether you call a landline or a mobile, is on the list before you pay.

What is the cheapest phone plan with international calling?

For Mexico and Canada, most plans already include it at no extra cost. For other countries, the lowest published add-on price we found is US Mobile's $3 a month International Calling feature on its Light and monthly Unlimited Starter plans, as of October 2026, though minute limits vary by country. For occasional calls, paying per minute is often cheaper than any plan.

Do prepaid plans include international calling?

Many do. Cricket includes Mexico and Canada on its Supreme, Smart and Select Unlimited plans, and Mint includes Mexico, Canada and the UK. Others sell add-ons or charge per minute from prepaid credit, so read the international section of the plan before you buy.
