Mint Mobile International Calls: Rates, Credit and Free Countries

Mint Mobile includes free calls from the US to Mexico, Canada and the UK on all plans. Calls to the other 160+ countries are pay-as-you-go: you load money into your Mint Mobile wallet and Mint deducts its per-minute rate, for example $0.01 a minute to India landlines and $0.14 a minute to Philippine mobiles, as of October 2026 (Mint Mobile International Calling).

There is no monthly international add-on to buy. You just need credit in the wallet before you dial anything outside those three free countries.

These are Mint's published rates from its rate search tool, as of October 2026. Mint lists landline and mobile separately, and the gap matters for some countries.

CountryLandlineMobile10-minute call to a mobile
MexicoFreeFree$0.00
CanadaFreeFree$0.00
United KingdomFreeFree$0.00
India$0.01/min$0.02/min$0.20
Colombia$0.01/min$0.01/min$0.10
Philippines$0.07/min$0.14/min$1.40

Mint also lists a separate "Rural" rate for Colombia ($0.05 a minute). Mint says international calls are billed per minute and that rates and destinations can change at any time without notice, so look up your country on Mint's rates page before a long call.

Texting is a separate story. Mint advertises free texts to 190+ countries and destinations, and its rate tool shows "Unlimited" texts to India, Colombia and the Philippines.

How Mint's international credit works

Mint does not bill international calls to your plan. It takes them out of a prepaid balance called the Mint Mobile wallet, and Mint calls the money used this way "INTL calling credit". There is nothing to add or remove: if the wallet has money, you can call.

According to Mint's help article on international calls, as of October 2026:

  1. Load the wallet. In the app: open Menu, scroll to Payment, select Add Money to Wallet. On the website: log in, click Menu, then Load Wallet.
  2. Pick an amount. Mint offers $5, $10 or $20. Your current Wallet Balance shows on the same screen.
  3. Dial the number. Mint takes the per-minute rate for that country out of your wallet as you talk.
  4. Check what you spent. In the app, open Menu and scroll to INTL call history.

Mint's wallet help page says the balance does not expire. The same wallet also pays for data add-ons and roaming passes, so a trip abroad can eat into credit you meant for calls.

What happens when the wallet is empty? Mint lists "not having enough credit in your Mint Wallet" as one of the two most common reasons international calls fail. You can check your balance in the app, by texting BALANCE to 6700, or by dialing 611 from your Mint phone.

The second common reason is the wrong dialing format, which is the next section.

How to dial an international number from a Mint phone

Mint's format is:

011 + country code + area code (if needed) + phone number

You can use + instead of 011. On most phones you get it by holding the 0 key.

A few examples:

  • India mobile: +91 then the 10-digit number, for example +91 98xxx xxxxx.
  • UK landline in London: +44 20 then the 8-digit number. Leave out the 0 at the start of the UK area code.
  • Mexico: +52 then the 10-digit number.
  • Canada: just dial the 10-digit number like a US call. No 011 needed.

Mint's own tip: include the area code when you call a landline, and skip that step for a mobile.

Mint vs BoraPhone: what a 10-minute call costs

Mint is cheap, and for these five countries it beats BoraPhone on price. The table uses mobile numbers, the usual worst case, with Mint's rates as of October 2026 and BoraPhone's rates at the time of writing (October 2026).

10-minute call toMint wallet creditIncluded in Mint plan?BoraPhone
Mexico mobileNot neededYes, free$1.10
India mobile$0.20No$1.10
UK mobileNot neededYes, free$0.70
Philippines mobile$1.40No$6.50
Colombia mobile$0.10No$0.90

If you have a Mint phone in your hand and you are in the US, use it. Ten hours a month to an Indian mobile is 600 minutes, or about $12 at $0.02 a minute. Ten hours to a Philippine mobile is about $84. Both are hard to beat.

So where does a service like BoraPhone fit for a Mint customer? A few real cases:

  • You are not at your phone. It runs in a web browser on a laptop, tablet or someone else's phone, with no app and no SIM. It is pay-as-you-go from $5 with rates shown before each call.
  • The person who needs to call is not on Mint. A parent on a carrier with expensive long distance, for example.
  • The country is outside Mint's list. Mint covers 160+ countries and BoraPhone 180+, so check both for less common destinations.
  • You are abroad and need to call local numbers. That is a roaming question, covered below.

To compare more countries side by side, use the rates page or the international calling rate index.

Calling from the US vs using Mint abroad

Everything above is about calling other countries from the US. Using your Mint phone while travelling is a different product called a Minternational Pass (Mint international roaming, as of October 2026):

PassPriceTalkTextsHigh-speed data
1-Day$560 min601GB
3-Day$10200 min2003GB
10-Day$20500 min50010GB
30-Day No Data$5100 min100None

Passes work in 180+ countries. You can buy one before you leave and activate it when you land, or buy and activate on arrival. Canada gets special treatment: Mint includes free unlimited talk and text plus 3GB of high-speed data while you visit.

Mint also says you can use Wi-Fi Calling abroad for calls and texts back to the US at no extra cost. Mint does not spell out on these pages how a Wi-Fi call to a foreign number is billed, so check your INTL call history after the first one. Our guide on whether Wi-Fi calling is free internationally explains why calls to foreign numbers are the usual catch.

If you are comparing carriers before a move or a long trip, see our roundups of phone plans with international calling and T-Mobile international calling. Mint runs on T-Mobile's network, but the international pricing is Mint's own.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mint Mobile include international calling?

Partly. All Mint plans include free calls from the US to Mexico, Canada and the UK, plus free texts to 190+ countries and destinations. Calls to other countries use per-minute rates paid from your Mint Mobile wallet.

Are international calls free on Mint Mobile?

Only to Mexico, Canada and the UK. Everything else costs money, but the rates are low: $0.01 to $0.02 a minute to India and $0.07 to $0.14 a minute to the Philippines as of October 2026. Load $5, $10 or $20 into the wallet first.

Do you still need to dial 011 for international calls on Mint?

You can dial 011 or use the + sign, and both work. The + sign is easier because the same saved number works from any country. For Canada you dial the 10-digit number with no prefix.

Will I be charged if someone abroad calls my Mint number?

Mint says no when you are in the US. International long distance rates apply to the Mint subscriber who makes the call, so the person calling you pays their own carrier. Roaming rules are different if you are the one who is abroad.
