T-Mobile International Calling: Rates, Add-Ons and Real Costs
Calling another country from the US on T-Mobile is pay-per-minute unless you add Stateside International Talk, which costs $15 a month per line and makes calls to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+ countries unlimited (as of October 2026). Calls to Mexico and Canada are already included on most T-Mobile plans, so you only need the add-on for the rest of the world. Without it, T-Mobile's published rate table charges $3.00 a minute to most countries.
That is the short answer. The rest of this guide shows the actual rates for the countries people call most, what a 10-minute call costs with and without the add-on, how to switch it on and off, and why calling from abroad is a different bill entirely.
The three ways T-Mobile can bill a call abroad
Every international call on T-Mobile falls into one of three buckets:
- Included in your plan. Calls from the US to Mexico and Canada, on most current plans.
- Covered by Stateside International Talk. If you pay the $15 add-on, calls to the countries on its list are unlimited, and calls everywhere else get a discounted per-minute rate.
- Pay per use. No add-on, so every minute is charged at T-Mobile's international rate for that country.
Which bucket you fall into depends on your plan and the number you dial, not on whether you use the cell network or Wi-Fi. T-Mobile's support page on calling from the US says it plainly: Wi-Fi calls placed to other countries are subject to international rates.
What T-Mobile charges per minute without an add-on
T-Mobile's international calling page publishes a rate table for every country, with three columns: the pay-per-use rate, and the landline and mobile rates with Stateside International Talk. As of October 2026 it shows:
| Destination | Without Stateside International | Landline with Stateside International | Mobile with Stateside International |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mexico | $1.00 a minute | Free | Free |
| Canada | $1.00 a minute | Free | Free |
| India | $3.00 a minute | Free | Free |
| United Kingdom | $3.00 a minute | Free | Free |
| Colombia | $3.00 a minute | Free | Free |
| Philippines | $3.00 a minute | $0.30 a minute | $0.30 a minute |
| Pakistan | $3.00 a minute | $0.30 a minute | $0.30 a minute |
| Nigeria | $3.00 a minute | $0.49 a minute | $0.49 a minute |
Most countries on that table are $3.00 a minute without the add-on, and some (Vietnam, Afghanistan and Angola, for example) are $5.00. T-Mobile does not say whether older plans get different rates, so type the country into the lookup tool on that page before a long call. Either way, a single 5-minute call with no add-on costs as much as a month of the add-on.
Stateside International Talk: what $15 a month buys
Stateside International Talk (shown as "Stateside International with Mobile" on some T-Mobile support pages) is the add-on for calling other countries from the US. As of October 2026, T-Mobile lists:
- Price: $15 a month per line. At the time of writing T-Mobile also advertises a limited-time offer of $20 a month per account, so a whole family can share it.
- Landlines: unlimited calls to landlines in 70+ countries and destinations.
- Mobiles: unlimited calls to mobiles in 30+ countries and destinations (T-Mobile's prepaid FAQ on the same page says 36+).
- Everywhere else: discounted per-minute rates instead of the full pay-per-use rate.
- Where you can call from: the US, plus Canada and Mexico on Experience More, Experience Beyond, Go5G, Magenta, ONE and Simple Choice North America plans. Calls from anywhere else are charged as international roaming.
- Prepaid: available on T-Mobile prepaid plans that cost $40 a month or more.
The fine print that matters
- Calls must be "direct communication between 2 people", in T-Mobile's words.
- T-Mobile does not publish a monthly minute cap, but says "certain numbers" are not included. It blocks calls to international toll-free (+800) numbers and to 700, 900 and 976 numbers, and says it may block calls to some countries to prevent fraud.
- Landline and mobile coverage are different lists. A country can be free to landlines and still charged per minute to mobiles (Turkey and Vietnam are like this on T-Mobile's table), so check both columns for the country you call.
Which plans include Mexico and Canada
T-Mobile says "most T-Mobile plans" include unlimited calling from the US to Mexico and Canada at no extra cost, but it does not publish a list of the plans that leave it out. If you only call those two countries, you probably do not need any add-on. Sign in to the T-Life app or My T-Mobile to confirm it is on your plan, since older and discounted plans vary.
Texting is more generous still. Experience More, Experience Beyond, Go5G, Magenta, ONE and most plans activated after November 2015 include unlimited texts from the US to almost every country (Cuba and Wallis and Futuna are the exceptions).
A 10-minute call, priced three ways
Here is one 10-minute call to each of five popular destinations. T-Mobile figures come from the table above, as of October 2026. The add-on column is the call cost only; the $15 monthly fee is on top. The last column is at the time of writing (October 2026), and each country links to its live rate page.
| 10-minute call to | T-Mobile pay per use | With Stateside International Talk | BoraPhone (landline / mobile) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mexico | $10.00 (included on most plans) | $0 | $0.40 / $1.10 |
| India | $30.00 | $0 | $1.11 / $1.11 |
| United Kingdom | $30.00 | $0 | $0.40 / $0.70 |
| Philippines | $30.00 | $3.00 | $4.61 / $6.50 |
| Colombia | $30.00 | $0 | $0.90 / $0.90 |
What the table tells you
If you call one of these countries for hours every month, pay the $15. Someone who talks to family in Manila for an hour a week (about 260 minutes a month) pays roughly $78 in call charges plus the $15 fee with Stateside International Talk. At $3.00 a minute on pay per use, the same month would be about $780. And for India, the UK or Colombia, the add-on makes every call free, so heavy callers cannot beat it.
If you call abroad a few times a year, the $15 is the expensive part. Paying $15 for a month of unlimited calls you use once, then remembering to remove it, makes little sense when a pay-per-minute service charges cents for the same call.
Never call pay per use by accident. The $30 figures in that column are what happens when you dial India without the add-on and without checking.
How to add or remove Stateside International Talk
T-Mobile's guide to managing add-ons gives these steps:
- In the T-Life app, open the Account tab and select Manage Add-ons. On T-Mobile.com, sign in and click Manage add-ons and benefits in the Your plan section.
- Select Stateside International Talk to add it, or deselect it to remove it.
- Select Continue to confirm.
T-Mobile notes that not every feature can be added in T-Life. If it does not appear, use T-Mobile.com or contact T-Mobile customer care. Add it before a long call rather than after, because calls you have already made are billed at the rate in force at the time.
If you want the opposite, a block on outgoing international calls (useful for kids' phones), T-Mobile cannot add that online. Call 1-877-746-0909 to set it up. The block does not stop calls to Canada or the US Virgin Islands.
How to dial an international number on T-Mobile
Press and hold 0 until a + appears, then enter the country code and the number without its leading zero. For example, a London number written as 020 7946 0000 becomes +44 20 7946 0000. Canada shares the +1 country code with the US, so you dial a Canadian number like a US one. Mexico has its own code, +52.
Traveling abroad is a separate bill
Everything above is about calling other countries from the US. Using your phone while you are in another country is roaming, and T-Mobile prices it differently, as of October 2026:
- On plans such as Experience Beyond and Essentials, calls made or received in 215+ countries and destinations cost $0.50 a minute, texting is included, and some plans include data.
- Wi-Fi calls from abroad to US, Mexico and Canada numbers are free.
- An International Pass adds unlimited calling and more high-speed data: $10 for one day (2GB), $50 for 10 days (15GB) or $75 for 30 days (30GB), per T-Mobile's international roaming plans page.
Stateside International Talk does not help you while traveling, except for calls made from Canada or Mexico on the plans listed above. If you are standing in Rome and call a Roman restaurant from your US phone, you pay roaming rates. Our guide to whether Wi-Fi calling is free internationally explains why that catches so many travelers out.
When the $15 add-on is overkill
BoraPhone makes calls to real landlines and mobiles in 180+ countries from a web browser on a laptop, tablet or phone, with no app and no SIM. You buy credit from $5, pay per minute (rounded up to the next minute), and see the exact rate before you call. It works best for occasional callers who do not want a monthly add-on, for people who cannot add one to their plan, and for travelers who want to call a foreign number over Wi-Fi without paying roaming rates. Be realistic about expensive destinations: T-Mobile's add-on rates to the Philippines ($0.30), Pakistan ($0.30) and Nigeria ($0.49) are lower than BoraPhone's, so a regular caller to those countries is better off with the add-on.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free to call internationally with T-Mobile?
Calls from the US to Mexico and Canada are included on most T-Mobile plans at no extra cost. Calls to other countries are not free unless you add Stateside International Talk for $15 a month, which makes calls to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+ countries unlimited. Without it, you pay per minute, and T-Mobile's published table charges $3.00 a minute to most countries.
How do I make an international call on my T-Mobile phone?
Open your phone app, press and hold 0 to get the plus sign, then dial the country code and the local number without its leading zero. Check the rate in T-Mobile's lookup tool first if you do not have Stateside International Talk. The same rates apply whether the call goes over the cell network or Wi-Fi.
What countries are free with T-Mobile?
On most plans, Mexico and Canada are included with no add-on. With Stateside International Talk, calls are unlimited to landlines in 70+ countries and mobiles in 30+ countries, including India, the UK and Colombia on T-Mobile's published table. Look up your country on T-Mobile's international calling page, since landline and mobile lists differ.
Can I use my T-Mobile phone internationally?
Yes. Most T-Mobile plans work in 215+ countries and destinations, with texting included and calls typically charged at $0.50 a minute on plans such as Essentials and Experience Beyond. Wi-Fi calls back to US, Mexico and Canada numbers are free, and an International Pass from $10 a day adds unlimited calling.
Does Stateside International Talk work when I am abroad?
Only from Canada and Mexico, and only on Experience More, Experience Beyond, Go5G, Magenta, ONE and Simple Choice North America plans. Calls made from any other country are billed as international roaming. For travel, look at T-Mobile's roaming rates or an International Pass instead.
