Lebara International Calls: Included Countries, Minutes and Costs

Every Lebara UK SIM-only plan includes international minutes to over 50 countries at no extra cost, so you do not need a separate add-on to call places like India, Poland, the USA or Ireland. You get 100 international minutes a month on most plans, 500 on the 50GB plan and unlimited on the top two. Calls to countries outside the list, such as Pakistan and Nigeria, need pay-as-you-go credit at Lebara's standard rates.

All Lebara details below come from Lebara's own international calls page and SIM-only deals page, checked in October 2026.

Which countries can you call with your included minutes?

Lebara's FAQ says all its plans "include calls to over 50 countries from the UK, for free." The list it gives, grouped here by region:

  • Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine (Kyivstar)
  • Asia: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand
  • The Americas: Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Guadeloupe, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, USA
  • Oceania: Australia, New Zealand

Lebara's international calls page adds that "standard mobile and landline calls are included in our international minutes allowance." So a call to a Polish mobile and a call to a Polish landline both come out of the same pot. Special numbers are not: international premium numbers cost the international rate plus 60p a minute.

Notice who is missing. Pakistan, Nigeria, the Philippines, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the UAE and Vietnam are not on the list. Many people searching for Lebara are calling exactly those countries, so check the list before you switch.

How many international minutes does each plan include?

50GBUnlimited500
100GBUnlimitedUnlimited
Unlimited dataUnlimited100

Lebara says its SIM-only plans "start at £5" a month, which is the 5GB plan, as of October 2026. Prices for the bigger plans are shown on the SIM-only deals page, and Lebara offers them on both 30-day and 12-month terms, so check the price for the term you pick. Plans are 30-day rolling with no credit check, and Lebara says it has no annual price rises on its SIM-only plans (it notes international, roaming and PAYG rates can still change).

Two things are worth knowing about the allowance:

  1. The unlimited plans carry the usual small print. "Unlimited" international minutes on mobile plans normally come with a fair-use policy. Read the plan's terms before you count on calling abroad for hours every day.
  2. The minutes reset each month. 100 minutes is about three short calls a week. If you speak to family abroad for an hour every Sunday, you need the 50GB plan or one of the unlimited ones.

What happens when the minutes run out, or the country is not covered?

Lebara is clear on this: "If you exceed your plan allowance, are not using a SIM-only plan with international minutes, or are using pay-as-you-go (PAYG), then standard PAYG rates will apply and you will need to have PAYG credit to be able to call."

Lebara also says out-of-bundle usage on SIM-only plans is "capped at zero." In practice that means no surprise bill: if you have no PAYG credit, the call to Pakistan simply will not go through until you top up. A few other rules from the same page:

  • Calls from the UK to Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man cost 25p a minute.
  • International premium numbers cost the applicable international rate plus 60p a minute.
  • Some remote "rural" destinations abroad have their own rate list.

Is there an international add-on instead? Not that we could find. Lebara's UK add-ons start "from just £3", need an active plan and end when your plan does, but the add-ons listed in October 2026 were data, not extra international minutes. So for Pakistan or Nigeria the route is PAYG credit, or a plan change if you simply need more minutes to a listed country.

We could not read Lebara's per-minute PAYG rates for Pakistan or Nigeria from its public pages in October 2026, because the rate checker only loads them after you pick a country. Look them up on Lebara's rates page before you top up, and compare with the options below.

A 10-minute call from a Lebara phone, and from BoraPhone

BoraPhone rates are in US dollars at the time of writing (October 2026). Each country's rates page shows the live price.

CallingOn Lebara's 50+ list?Cost on a Lebara planBoraPhone, 10 minutes (US$)

IrelandYesUses 10 included minutes$1.10 landline, $2.10 mobile (Ireland rates)
PakistanNoPAYG credit at Lebara's rate$3.50 landline, $4.00 mobile (Pakistan rates)
NigeriaNoPAYG credit at Lebara's rate$5.10 landline, $5.20 mobile (Nigeria rates)

The honest reading:

  • If you are already on Lebara and call a listed country, use your included minutes. Nothing else on this page is cheaper than a call your plan already pays for.
  • If you call India or Poland for hours every month, a Lebara plan with 500 or unlimited international minutes is very hard to beat, even if it means switching SIM. An hour to India every Sunday is about 260 minutes a month: too much for a 100-minute plan, well inside 500. The same 260 minutes on BoraPhone would cost about US$28.60 at US$0.11 a minute.
  • Pakistan and Nigeria are expensive almost everywhere. BoraPhone is not the cheap choice there. A dedicated calling app, a calling card or a carrier bundle aimed at that one country is often cheaper for regular calls. Our guide to phone cards for international calls in the UK covers that route.

Should you switch SIM just for the international minutes?

Lebara is built for people who call abroad, and it is good at it. But switching SIM is not free of effort: your phone must not be locked to your current network, you move your number across, and you leave whatever deal you have now.

That is where a browser service makes sense instead. BoraPhone calls real mobiles and landlines in 180+ countries from a browser tab on your phone, laptop or tablet, so you can keep your EE, O2, Vodafone or Three contract and still call abroad cheaply. You top up from $5, see the rate before you dial, and pay per minute, rounded up to the next full minute. The first call is free, and failed calls are refunded. It fits occasional callers, people ringing a landline abroad such as a bank or a hospital, and anyone who does not want to change networks. Rates to the USA, Canada and most of Western Europe start at a few cents a minute; see cheap international calls from the UK for the full picture.

If you are still choosing a network, compare Lebara with Lyca Mobile and giffgaff, or see our pick of the best SIM for international calls in the UK.

How to dial abroad from a Lebara phone

From the UK, dial 00 (or press +), then the country code, then the number without its first zero.

You want to callDial
An Indian mobile (10 digits, often written with a 0 in front)+91, then the 10 digits without the 0
A Polish number (9 digits)+48, then the 9 digits
A US number, (212) 555-0123+1 212 555 0123
An Irish mobile written as 08x xxx xxxx+353 8x xxx xxxx

The included minutes cover calls made from the UK. Check your remaining allowance in the MyLebara app before a long call, so you know whether it will come out of your minutes or your PAYG credit.

Calling abroad is not the same as using Lebara abroad

Everything above is about calling another country while you are in the UK. Using your Lebara phone while you are travelling is roaming, and different rules apply. Lebara says there are no roaming charges in the EU and in India, with EU data use up to 30GB on its plans. Outside the EU/EEA and India, Lebara sells roaming add-ons by destination, and its Roaming Rate Finder shows which countries let you use your allowance. A call to a local number while you are on holiday in Spain is not the same as a call to Spain from London, so check the roaming rules for your trip rather than your international minutes. For calling back to the UK from overseas, see how to call the UK from abroad.

Frequently asked questions

Are international calls free on Lebara?

Calls from the UK to the 50+ countries on Lebara's list are included in your plan's international minutes, so they cost nothing extra until the allowance runs out. Calls to other countries, or calls after your minutes are used up, need PAYG credit at Lebara's standard rates.

Can I call Pakistan with my Lebara international minutes?

No. Pakistan is not on the list of countries covered by Lebara's included international minutes, as of October 2026. You need PAYG credit, and Lebara's rate checker shows the current price per minute.

Do Lebara international minutes cover landlines and mobiles?

Yes. Lebara says standard mobile and landline calls are both included in the international minutes allowance. International premium numbers are not, and cost the international rate plus 60p a minute.

Can you use Lebara worldwide?

You can roam with Lebara in many countries, but the cost depends on where you are. Roaming is included in the EU (up to 30GB of data) and in India, and Lebara sells data roaming add-ons for other destinations. Use its Roaming Rate Finder before you travel.

What network does Lebara use, and is it better than Vodafone?

Lebara says it runs on Vodafone's network in the UK, so you get Vodafone's mast coverage. The difference is the plan itself: Lebara plans are 30-day rolling with no credit check and include international minutes to 50+ countries. Compare current Vodafone plans directly if network extras matter to you.
