Delta International Phone Number (Plus American and United)

Delta has no single international phone number that works from every country. Its International Sales and Service line, 800-241-4141, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but it is toll-free from the US only, so from abroad you call Delta's local number for your country, for example +44 20 7660 0767 in the UK or +353 1 659 0298 in Ireland. American Airlines works the same way: its UK line, +44 20 7660 2300, is answered in English 24 hours a day, and its US line, 800-433-7300, is open 24 hours (Central Time) but only from the US and Canada. Every number below was checked in October 2026 on Delta's Help Center and American's worldwide numbers page.

If your flight has just been cancelled and you are standing in an airport abroad, open the airline's app first (it may already have rebooked you), then call the local number, and ring it over Wi-Fi rather than on a roaming mobile.

Which airline numbers do not work from abroad?

Every number starting 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 or 833 is a US toll-free number. Foreign mobile networks usually cannot connect to them, and if a call does go through, you may pay international or roaming rates anyway. Country toll-free numbers have the same problem in reverse: they only work inside that country.

Delta Air Lines numbers outside the US

Delta's US reservations line (800-221-1212) and its International Sales and Service line (800-241-4141) are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Outside the US, Delta lists a number for each country. These are the ones most travelers need, as printed on Delta's Help Center, with the full international format added:

In Mexico, Delta lists 01-800-266-0046, a domestic toll-free number that only works inside Mexico. Mexico dropped the 01 prefix in 2019, so if it does not connect, dial 800-266-0046. For anywhere else, Delta's Help Center has the full list by region.

Delta also lets you message a reservations agent instead of calling, and its flight-changes page says that after a big delay or schedule change it will usually try to rebook you automatically. Check My Trips or the Fly Delta app before you join a queue. Medallion members should check the Contact Us section of the Fly Delta app for their dedicated line.

American Airlines numbers outside the US

In the US and Canada, American's reservations lines are 800-433-7300 (English) and 800-633-3711 (Spanish), both 24 hours. Hours are in Central Time for US lines and local time for the country lines below. American notes that not all international calls to it are toll-free and mobile rates may be higher.

Two numbers on American's list cost more than a normal call: France (0821-980-999, 0.12 euro a minute plus your phone company's charge) and the UK alternative 0844-369-9899 (5p a minute plus access charge). Use the London number instead where you can.

A useful detail: both the Delta and American UK numbers are ordinary London landlines. Anyone can dial them from any country as a normal international call to the UK, which is how American serves callers in Turkey.

United Airlines from abroad

United's US reservations line, 1-800-864-8331 (1-800-UNITED-1), is a toll-free number, so treat it as US-only like the others. United publishes its local numbers on its International Reservation Numbers page. That page only loads in a full browser, and we could not confirm its country numbers or hours for this guide in October 2026, so they are not reprinted here. Open it on your phone or laptop, pick the country you are in, and use that number.

Two things to know before you look:

  • Search results are full of fake airline numbers. A search for United's UK number in October 2026 returned PDFs and social media posts listing call centers that are not United. Only dial a number you found on united.com or in the United app. The same goes for Delta and American.
  • Try the app before the phone. After a cancellation, check My Trips in the United app or on united.com first. If a new flight is offered there, you can accept it without waiting in a phone queue.

When is the best time to call from abroad?

The airlines do not publish wait times. Queues are longest when bad weather or an outage cancels flights across the US, because everyone affected calls at once. Calling when most of the US is asleep, roughly midnight to 6am Eastern Time, means you are not competing with the US daytime crowd. Here is that window in local time from November to March. From March to early November, the UK and Europe stay the same, the other rows are an hour earlier, and Sydney is two hours earlier.

You are inMidnight to 6am Eastern is roughlyTip
UK and Ireland5am to 11amCall over breakfast
Western Europe (France, Germany, Spain, Italy)6am to noonCall before your day starts
India10:30am to 4:30pmEasy daytime calls
Japan and South Korea2pm to 8pmAfternoon
Sydney4pm to 10pmAfternoon or evening
Mexico City11pm to 5amHardest region, try early evening as well

Local country lines that are not 24 hours follow local business hours, so check the hours column above.

What to have ready before you dial

  • Your six-character confirmation code (record locator) and ticket number.
  • Your frequent flyer number, if you have one. Delta asks SkyMiles members to have their account number ready to speed up the call.
  • The flight number and date, plus any new flight you want.
  • A pen, or a notes app, for the agent's name and any reference number.
  • A charged phone or laptop and a stable Wi-Fi connection. Holds can be long.

On the phone menu, say what you need in a few words ("cancelled flight", "change flight") rather than waiting through every option. If the system offers a call back, take it, and give a number you can answer abroad.

What does the call cost from a mobile abroad?

A long hold on a roaming mobile is the expensive way to do this. A US traveler on Verizon pays $12 for a TravelPass day (calls included). Without a pass or bolt-on, roaming calls are billed per minute, and so is the time spent on hold. A call over Wi-Fi from a browser costs a few cents a minute:

A 45-minute call, mostly on holdCost
US mobile on Verizon TravelPass$12 for the day
Roaming mobile with no passYour carrier's per-minute roaming rate, check before you call
BoraPhone to a regular (not toll-free) US number, from $0.04 a minuteAbout $1.80
BoraPhone to the London numbers above, UK landline rate $0.04 a minuteAbout $1.80
BoraPhone to American's Tokyo number, Japan landline rate $0.17 a minuteAbout $7.65

BoraPhone rates are at the time of writing (October 2026); the dialer shows the exact rate for the number before you call. It runs in a browser on any Wi-Fi, so you can call from a hotel lobby on your laptop and keep your phone free for the airline app. Billing is per minute, rounded up, and failed calls are refunded. For other countries, the full rates list has every destination.

If your trip has gone wrong in other ways too, see our guides to calling a hotel abroad and avoiding roaming charges on calls.

Frequently asked questions

What is Delta's international phone number?

Delta does not have one worldwide number. Its International Sales and Service line, 800-241-4141, is open 24 hours but is toll-free from the US only. Outside the US, use the number Delta lists for your country, such as +44 20 7660 0767 in the UK, from Delta's Help Center.

Can I call an airline's 800 number from abroad?

Usually not from a foreign mobile network, and when it does connect you may pay international or roaming rates. Use the airline's local number for the country you are in, or an internet calling service that routes the call through the US.

What is United Airlines' international phone number?

United does not have one number for every country. Its US line, 1-800-864-8331, is toll-free and meant for callers in the US. From abroad, use the local number for your country on United's International Reservation Numbers page, and ignore numbers posted in PDFs or social media.

Should I call the airline or use the app after a cancellation abroad?

Check the app first. Delta says it will usually try to rebook you automatically after a big delay or schedule change, and both Delta and American let you change many trips online. Call if the app cannot offer a flight that works, or if your ticket is one of the types the airline says must be changed by phone.

Is it cheaper to call the airline's local number or its US number?

From a mobile abroad, the local number is usually cheaper because it is a domestic call. From a browser calling service, a regular US number and a London landline both cost from $0.04 a minute at the time of writing, so pick the line with the right hours and language. Since the airlines' main US lines are toll-free, a London number is often the easier choice.
