Telstra International Calls Pack: Zones, Prices and Rules
A Telstra International Calling Pack costs A$10 (Zone 1), A$20 (Zone 2) or A$30 (Zone 3) a month and adds calls from Australia on top of the 30 minutes of standard international calls that many Upfront plans already include. Zone 1 gives unlimited standard calls to 23 destinations, including India, the UK, New Zealand and China; Zones 2 and 3 add 200 minutes to 45 or 99 more (as of October 2026, per Telstra's International Calling Packs page).
So you only need a pack if 30 minutes a month is not enough. Below: which zone your country sits in, what a 10-minute call costs on each option, how to add or cancel a pack, and the fine print people trip over.
Do you need a Telstra pack at all?
A quick way to decide:
- You call abroad for under 30 minutes a month in total. If your Upfront plan includes the 30 minutes, you probably need nothing. They cover calls to all countries.
- You call one Zone 1 country (India, the UK, NZ, China, the USA and others) for hours each month. The A$10 Zone 1 pack gives unlimited standard calls and is very good value.
- You call the Philippines, Pakistan, Nigeria, South Africa or France regularly. You need Zone 2 (A$20) for 200 minutes a month.
- You call a few times a year, or from a laptop, or while overseas. A pack is the wrong tool. See the last sections below.
The three Telstra International Calling Packs
All three packs are monthly add-ons for eligible Telstra Upfront mobile plans. Prices and inclusions as of October 2026:
| Pack | Monthly price | Unlimited standard calls | Capped minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Calling Pack Zone 1 | A$10 | 23 destinations | None |
| International Calling Pack Zone 2 | A$20 | Same 23 destinations | 200 minutes to 45 more destinations |
| International Calling Pack Zone 3 | A$30 | Same 23 destinations | 200 minutes to 99 destinations (Zone 2 list plus more) |
Packs cover voice calls made from Australia to standard international numbers. Telstra excludes premium numbers, satellite numbers and data-based or video calling services. Each pack starts as soon as you add it. Telstra's pages do not say whether calls to mobiles and landlines are treated differently, and they do not list a separate fair-use cap, so read your plan's Critical Information Summary if you expect very heavy use.
Which zone is my country in?
Telstra's 23 unlimited destinations (all three packs) are:
| Region | Unlimited on Zone 1, 2 and 3 |
|---|---|
| Asia | China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam |
| Europe | Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom |
| Americas | Canada, USA, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands |
| Oceania | Guam, New Zealand |
The Zone 2 list (200 minutes) includes the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Taiwan, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia, among others. Zone 3 adds countries such as Austria, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Jordan and Qatar.
Two surprises worth flagging: Poland and Austria are only in Zone 3, and France and Italy get capped minutes, not unlimited calls. If your country is on none of the three lists, a pack does nothing for it and only your 30 included minutes apply, so check the full list on Telstra's page before you buy.
What a 10-minute call costs with each option
Telstra prices are in Australian dollars. BoraPhone bills in US dollars; its rates below are at the time of writing (October 2026), and the exact rate is shown in the dialer before every call.
| Option | India | UK | New Zealand | China | Philippines |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront plan, within your 30 included minutes | A$0 | A$0 | A$0 | A$0 | A$0 |
| Upfront plan after the 30 minutes, no pack | No pay-per-use rate published | Same | Same | Same | Same |
| Zone 1 pack, A$10/month | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Not covered |
| Zone 2 pack, A$20/month | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | From the 200 minutes |
| BoraPhone, pay as you go | $1.11 | $0.40 landline, $0.70 mobile | $0.70 landline, $1.90 mobile | $7.20 landline, $7.60 mobile | $4.61 landline, $6.50 mobile |
The honest reading:
- Calling India, the UK, NZ or China for well over half an hour a month? Take the Zone 1 pack. Unlimited calls for A$10 a month is hard to beat if you call every week. This is especially true for China, where BoraPhone costs US$0.72 a minute or more.
- Regular calls to the Philippines? Zone 2 at A$20 for 200 minutes works out at about 10c a minute if you use most of it. That is cheaper than BoraPhone for heavy callers.
- One or two calls a month? Your 30 included minutes probably cover it, and a pack would be wasted money.
Telstra's standard international rates
This is the part Telstra makes hard to pin down. Its Upfront plan pages describe the 30 included minutes and then point you to a pack, and the support pages refer to "standard international rates" without listing figures for Upfront mobile customers. We could not find an official per-minute rate for calls beyond the 30 minutes on an Upfront mobile plan, so we have not printed one.
If you are close to your 30 minutes and need one more call, check the My Telstra app before dialling, or use a pay-as-you-go service where the rate is shown up front.
Telstra Pre-Paid international calls
Pre-Paid works differently. Many Telstra Pre-Paid recharges include international minutes: according to Telstra's Pre-Paid international call rates page, the A$44 recharge includes 300 Zone 1 minutes, 60 Zone 2 minutes and 5 Zone 3 minutes, and larger recharges include more. The A$15 recharge includes none (as of October 2026).
On top of that, Telstra sells two Pre-Paid International Calling Packs, valid for 28 days:
| Pre-Paid pack | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A$10 pack | A$10 | 300 minutes to Zone 1 |
| A$15 pack | A$15 | 300 minutes to Zone 1, plus 60 minutes to Zone 2 |
On Pre-Paid, India, the UK, New Zealand and China are in Zone 1 and the Philippines is in Zone 2. Pre-Paid packs need an active recharge, only work in Australia, and do not roll over. You can buy one in the My Telstra app (Services, your Pre-Paid service, Extras, International calling packs), on Telstra's online Recharge page, or by calling 125 100, which Telstra lists as a free call.
How to add or cancel a Telstra International Calling Pack
On an Upfront plan, packs can only be managed in My Telstra:
- Open My Telstra and go to Services.
- Select the service you want the pack on.
- Select Extras, then International Calling Pack.
- Choose the zone and follow the prompts.
To cancel, go back to the same Extras section. The rules Telstra lists:
- It renews every month until you cancel, and you are charged on your monthly plan payment date.
- You can cancel any time after your first monthly plan payment date. Telstra says you can keep using the pack's inclusions until your next payment date, but you get no refund for remaining days or unused minutes.
- Unused minutes expire at your next monthly payment date. Nothing rolls over.
- One pack per service. You cannot stack Zone 1 and Zone 2, so pick the one that covers all your countries.
- Used up your 200 minutes? You cannot add a second pack. You wait until the allowance resets on your monthly payment date.
Calling from Australia vs calling while you travel
International Calling Packs are for calls you make from Australia to numbers overseas. They do not cover calls you make while you are abroad. That is international roaming, which Telstra sells separately as day passes and travel packs on its international roaming page. If someone asks "how do I buy a roaming pack", they want that page, not this one.
Where a pack is the wrong tool
Telstra's packs work well for one job: regular calls from an Australian mobile to a short list of countries. They fit badly when:
- You call rarely. Paying A$10 to A$30 a month for a few calls a year adds up.
- Your country is in Zone 3 or excluded. Poland, for example, needs the A$30 pack just for 200 minutes.
- You are overseas and need to call a foreign landline, such as a hotel or clinic.
- You want to call from a computer, or from a phone without a Telstra SIM.
For those cases, BoraPhone calls landlines and mobiles in 180+ countries straight from a web browser, with no app, no SIM and no subscription. You top up from $5, see the rate before each call, and pay per minute, rounded up to the next full minute. The first call is free and failed calls are refunded. Calls to India are US$0.11 a minute at the time of writing; the full rates list has every country.

Frequently asked questions
How do I add international calls to my Telstra plan?
In My Telstra, go to Services, select your service, then Extras, then International Calling Pack, and pick Zone 1, 2 or 3. The pack starts straight away and renews monthly until you cancel. Many Upfront plans already include 30 minutes a month to all countries, so check whether you need it first.
What is the Telstra international calls pack price?
As of October 2026, the Zone 1 pack is A$10 a month, Zone 2 is A$20 and Zone 3 is A$30. Pre-Paid customers have separate 28-day packs at A$10 and A$15. Prices can change, so confirm on Telstra's site before you add one.
What countries are included in Telstra international calls?
The 30 included minutes on Upfront plans cover all countries. The packs give unlimited calls to 23 destinations, including India, China, the UK, New Zealand, the USA and Canada, plus 200 minutes to 45 (Zone 2) or 99 (Zone 3) more. Countries outside those lists are not covered by any pack.
What is the best international calling plan?
It depends on how much you call and where. If you spend hours a month calling one country in Telstra's unlimited list, the A$10 Zone 1 pack is hard to beat. If you call occasionally, or call countries outside the packs, a pay-as-you-go service that shows the rate before each call usually costs less.
Does a Telstra International Calling Pack work overseas?
No. The packs cover calls made from Australia. While you travel, calls fall under international roaming, which Telstra sells separately as day passes and travel packs.
