Rogers Long Distance Plan: International Rates and Add-ons

Without an add-on, Rogers charges C$2.05 to C$3.40 a minute to call countries such as India, the UK, Mexico and the Philippines from a Canadian mobile, so if you call abroad at all, you want a long distance add-on. The two that matter are a C$5 a month pack of 1,000 international minutes to seven countries, and a C$9 a month add-on that cuts calls to over 100 destinations to a few cents a minute. Both go on top of your existing plan, so you do not need to change plans.

All Rogers prices below are from Rogers' add-ons page and rate finder, as of October 2026, in Canadian dollars.

Rogers' international long distance add-ons

Rogers sells three long distance add-ons for its mobile customers.

Long Distance: 1,000 international minutes to select countries, C$5/month 1,000 minutes a month from Canada to the U.S., India, China and Hong Kong (excluding Macau and Taiwan), the United Kingdom, Mexico and Bangladesh. If the people you call live in one of those countries, start here.

Long Distance: U.S. & International, C$9/month Gives you the "U.S. & International Preferred Rate" on calls from Canada to more than 100 destinations (Rogers says up to 98% off standard rates), plus unlimited U.S. and international text, picture and video messages sent from Canada. It is a discount, not a minute bundle: you still pay a few cents per minute.

Long Distance: U.S., C$28/month Unlimited calling from Canada to U.S. numbers. Calls to Puerto Rico, Mexico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are not included.

Rogers also bundles the Preferred Rate into two C$9 voicemail packs ("Value Pack: Premium Voicemail-to-Text" and "Apple Value Pack: Premium Visual Voicemail"). If you already pay for one of those, check your add-ons before buying the C$9 long distance add-on, because you may already have the Preferred Rate.

What you pay with no add-on

Rogers calls this the standard rate. Its rate finder shows one per-minute price per country:

  • India: C$2.05 a minute
  • United Kingdom: C$2.05 a minute
  • Italy: C$2.05 a minute
  • Mexico: C$3.05 a minute
  • Philippines: C$3.40 a minute
  • United States: C$1.25 a minute

With the C$9 add-on, the Preferred Rate for the same countries is 2 cents to India, 5 cents to the UK, Italy, Mexico and the U.S., and 25 cents to the Philippines.

Ten minutes to five countries, priced four ways

This is one 10-minute call from a Rogers mobile in Canada. The add-on columns show the per-call cost and leave out the monthly fee, so add C$5 or C$9 if this is your only call of the month. BoraPhone prices are in U.S. dollars, at the time of writing (October 2026).

The standard rate is the column to avoid. Even one 10-minute call to India at the standard rate (C$20.50) costs more than four months of the C$5 add-on.

A month of calls: two hours to the Philippines

Say you call family in Manila for 30 minutes every Sunday, about 120 minutes a month:

  • Rogers standard rate: 120 x C$3.40 = C$408
  • Rogers C$9 add-on: C$9 + (120 x C$0.25) = C$39
  • BoraPhone: 120 x US$0.46 = US$55.20 to a landline, or 120 x US$0.65 = US$78 to a mobile

For that caller the C$9 add-on is clearly the best deal, before airtime (see the fine print below). The C$5 pack does not help, because the Philippines is not one of its seven countries.

Which Rogers long distance plan fits how you call

You call India, the UK, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Bangladesh or the U.S. regularly. Get the C$5 add-on. 1,000 minutes for C$5 works out to half a cent a minute if you use them all. Nothing else on this page comes close for heavy callers to those countries.

You call Italy, the Philippines or anywhere outside that list. The C$9 U.S. & International add-on is the one. At 25 cents a minute, the Philippines is still the priciest country here, but it is a fraction of the C$3.40 standard rate. Search your country in Rogers' rate finder first, because "over 100 destinations" is not every destination.

You call several countries. Look at the C$9 add-on, since it covers far more destinations than the 1,000-minute pack.

You make a call abroad two or three times a year. Paying C$5 or C$9 every month for a handful of calls is poor value. You can add an add-on for the month you need it and remove it afterwards (ask Rogers how a part month is billed), or use a pay-per-call option instead (more on that below).

The fine print on Rogers long distance

Rogers' add-on terms include a few rules that change the real cost:

  • Airtime is extra. Rogers says airtime charges apply on top of the long distance rate, for calls to both landlines and mobiles. Check whether your plan's Canada-wide minutes cover that airtime before you assume the add-on price is the whole cost.
  • Rounding. Rogers says long distance charges are rounded up to the next full minute. The C$9 add-on's terms also say calls to mobile numbers are billed by the second with a 30-second minimum. The two lines do not fit together, so if exact billing matters, ask Rogers which applies to your calls.
  • Calls must start in Canada. The Preferred Rate applies to calls from Canada on the Rogers network, and the U.S. add-on is "not applicable while roaming."
  • Landline and mobile can differ. Rogers notes that international add-on rates may differ for calls to landlines and to mobiles, so check the rate finder for the exact number type you call.
  • Minutes do not roll over. Rogers says included minutes on the U.S. add-on do not carry over to the next month. The page does not say the same for the 1,000-minute pack, so read its terms when you add it.

How to add or remove a Rogers long distance add-on

To add one online, Rogers' long distance add-on help page gives these steps:

  1. Sign in to MyRogers and pick the wireless number.
  2. Select Browse Add-ons.
  3. Under Available add-ons, choose the long distance add-on and select View.
  4. Read the change summary, tick the box to agree to the add-on agreement, and select Add to my plan.

To change or remove an add-on, sign in to MyRogers, select Manage next to the number, then Manage add-ons in the My add-ons section. Rogers does not publish separate removal steps or say how a part month is billed, so if you cannot remove it there, or want to know what the last month costs, contact Rogers by chat or phone.

How to dial a number abroad from Canada

From any Canadian phone, dial 011, then the country code, then the number. On a mobile you can press + instead of 011.

  • India: 011 91 then the 10-digit number
  • United Kingdom: 011 44 then the number without its first 0
  • Mexico: 011 52 then the 10-digit number
  • Italy: 011 39 then the number, keeping the 0 at the start of landline numbers
  • Philippines: 011 63 then the number without its first 0
  • United States: 1 then the 10-digit number (no 011)

Travelling? Your long distance add-on stays in Canada

These add-ons are for calling abroad from Canada. When you take your phone to another country, roaming rules apply instead. Rogers' roaming option is the Travel Pass, listed from C$25 for 3 days on the add-ons page as of October 2026. Check what the pass covers for the country you are visiting, including calls to local numbers there, before you rely on it.

When the add-ons do not help (you are abroad, you are not a Rogers mobile customer, you want to call from a laptop, or you only need one call this year), a browser service like BoraPhone is a simple pay-per-call option. You top up from US$5, pay per minute (rounded up to the next minute) and see the rate before you dial, with no add-on or contract. To be clear: for a Rogers customer in Canada who calls India or the Philippines every week, the C$5 or C$9 add-on is cheaper.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Rogers long distance plan?

Rogers sells long distance as add-ons rather than separate plans. As of October 2026, 1,000 international minutes to seven countries cost C$5 a month, the U.S. & International Preferred Rate add-on costs C$9 a month, and unlimited calling to the U.S. costs C$28 a month. Without an add-on, most countries cost C$2.05 to C$3.40 a minute.

Does the Rogers C$5 international add-on cover the Philippines?

No. The 1,000-minute add-on covers the U.S., India, China and Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Bangladesh. For the Philippines, the C$9 U.S. & International add-on cuts the rate to 25 cents a minute, compared with C$3.40 without it.

Do Rogers long distance add-ons work when I am travelling?

No. Rogers' terms say the add-ons apply to calls that start in Canada on the Rogers network. When you are abroad, you pay roaming rates or use a Travel Pass instead.

Is Rogers long distance charged per minute or per second?

Rogers says long distance charges are rounded up to the next full minute. The terms for the C$9 add-on also say calls to mobile numbers are billed by the second with a 30-second minimum, so ask Rogers if the exact amount matters. Airtime is charged on top of the long distance rate.
